Fantastic Baka: Experience 17 kinds of premium meats

I know there’s a lot of Korean BBQ restaurant here in QC but I finally found my favorite KBBQ near in my place, and it’s no other than FANTASTIC BAKA.

ABOUT FANTASTIC BAKA

This Korean BBQ restaurant opened last June 2018. It’s located along Tomas Morato area. What I noticed in their place was it has a big space to accommodate more people. Each table has its enough space so it doesn’t look like crowded. It also has second floor which they have their VIP rooms.

The VIP rooms can accommodate up to 12 people. You can celebrate any occasions here in private.

Because of the spacious area, it means no need to wait longer! YAY. They can accommodate up to 100 people, actually.

Now, let’s go over to their food. By the way, here is their updated menu. You can choose between their 499 PHP & 799 PHP promo. Take note that there’s NO TIME LIMIT HERE!

Both promo comes also with unli side dishes, rice, cheese, and drinks… but wait, there’s more! Because you can also have unlimited milk tea as they offer it here too!

I can really say that the meats are premium and super good. We actually enjoyed the beef meats! The staff were very attentive and accommodating to our needs. Me and my friends really had a good time dining here. And we can say that the price is really reasonable because it’s worth it. It’s a must visit!!!

Pookaberry’s Cafe: Newest pop art coffee shop in Kamuning

It’s been a while since I went to an instagrammable place. I think the last time was in Ruby’s Place. So last June 5, I went out and visit this newest pop art coffee shop in Kamuning.

ABOUT POOKABERRY’S CAFE

This 2-story coffee shop opens last May. It is owned by the couple Peter and Jeanette Marco. This is their first branch here in the Philippines because they have one in New York, USA.

I really fell in love with the place. The whole cafe is covered with colorful drawings that made by the New York Pop Artist Peter Marco. It is filled with drawings of Ollie the Octopus and its imaginary friend Pookaberry, the Alien baby.

You can have private events in their second floor. Just contact them for more inquiry.

Upon entrance, there’s a gift shop where you can buy for some souvenirs.

TIP: Part of their sales goes to Project Pearls, which means helping poor children here in the Philippines.

For the food, they offer breakfast meals; drinks such as coffee and frappe; paninis; cookies; cakes. Price ranges from 80 to 300 php.

For our starter, we had these toast bread with different kinds of dip. The jam has spicy-kick, which was Chili Mango and Chili Orange.

Overall, I really love the cafe not only because of its ambiance but also for its advocacy to help people who are in need. So drop by here if you’ll be in the Kamuning area. My favorite food from them were the cheesecakes, cookies, and paninis. I also love their breakfast meals. The drinks were very refreshing and good!

Hodai Restaurant: Unli Japanese fusion cuisine

Who likes Japanese food here? What if I tell you that there’s a newly opened Japanese restaurant in QC?! Want more? They offer EAT ALL YOU CAN dishes! YUM!

ABOUT HODAI RESTAURANT

It’s a Japanese-Korean restaurant that offers eat-all-you-can. Hodai in Japanese means “all you can“. All dishes are prepared straight from the kitchen.

When you arrive at the restaurant, the first thing you will notice outside is that it looks like an old house. But don’t worry, the ambiance inside is big and has that Japanese feels.

For the food, they offer SILVER SET (499 php) and GOLD SET (599 php). But because of their “Thank You Promo”, they extended their 299 php promo for Silver Set and 359 php for Gold Set! Great steal right?!

What is the difference of the Silver and Gold Set? If you get their Gold Set, you’ll have an additional Spicy Cheese BBQ Bowl which was one of my favorite! So good!

Note that it also comes with unlimited rice and soup that is self service.

After indulging on their food, why not have an ice cream for dessert?! Note that the desserts is not included in the unli promo and you have to pay for it separately.

Group reservations are highly encouraged to do a reservation first as they offer a 150-seat capacity only.

Overall, this restaurant is a must try to us! Especially if you love Japanese food. Plus, it offers unlimited food so why can’t say no to this, right? One thing I noticed was that they don’t have ramen (which our fave Jap food). But it’s also okay to try other Japanese food. By the way, their Sushi Roll Tower are good! It offers different flavors with different kinds of dip/sauce.

The famous Amelito’s Sizzling House is now in Quezon City

Are you looking for an affordable eats in Quezon City? More like, “Saan aabot ang 55 php mo?” Well, let me share this newly opened sizzling house located in Tandang Sora, Quezon City.

ABOUT AMELITO’S SIZZLING HOUSE

This is one of the famous sizzling house in Bulacan. It was actually featured in Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho. They are known for their affordable sizzling food. Aside from the affordable prices, it actually comes with unli rice, unli soup, and unli gravy! WOWZA!

Just a little info, don’t expect a high-end restaurant. They are a carinderia-type. But the ventilation is okay because it’s an open area.

Expect the place to be jam-packed especially during lunch and dinner time. So if you’re curious about what they are offering, here’s some of their best seller food that we had when we visited their place.

We also want to try their other best seller such as their Salisbury Steak and T-Bone Steak but unfortunately, they don’t have stocks when we went there. I’m actually not expecting anything from them. Because of the cheap price and the ambiance of the place. But looks can really be deceiving! The food were really good! But what stood out for me were the Breaded Chicken Fillet, Chicken BBQ, and Sisig! So good! Now I know why it’s one of the famous sizzling house in Bulacan! So happy they brought it here in Manila! I must commend the soup and gravy too! “Sabaw pa lang, ulam na!”

Food crawl: Must try restaurants in Bataan

Who doesn’t love traveling? Everyone does! Of course, while you enjoy the breathtaking views in every places you visit, you also get to experience the food they offer. In case you missed it, we went to Bataan for the 77th Araw ng Kagitingan last April 7-9.

And because we want to maximize our time there, we also did a mini food crawl in Bataan. I’ll be showing here the list of the restaurants that we went to.

1. JOYOUS TANGWAY RESTAURANT

Our first stop was this Filipino restaurant that opened in February, 2012. This is one of the finest restaurants here in Bataan. One of the best-seller dish here is their Sinigang na Manok sa Ayo, which was one of my fave too!

Instead of using tamarind broth or powder, they use the leaves from Ayo (Tetrastigma Harmandi), a woody vine growing to a length of 10 meters.

This was probably one of my favorite restaurants in Bataan. Why? Because they almost offer everything. From soup to grilled cheese to sizzling dishes to salad, and even desserts.

3. MARRES KITCHEN

What can you observe from the place first was it’s just like a carinderia. So we didn’t expect much from them. But as soon as they serve our food, we were shocked by the big servings of the food and the taste. All the food were great! THIS IS A MUST TRY! They serve Filipino food with Kapampangan accent.

Looking for some desserts? Here is the perfect place for you! The desserts will not only satisfy you but also their lovely interior. I really fell in love with this place from the moment I opened their door.

This place is a happy place in Bataan. If you’re up for some drinks, then visit this place. They serve awesome pulutan such as sisig and isaw. My personal favorite was their Nachos.

If you’re up for some challenges, they also have it here inside. Just inform one of the staff from the bar. Also, they have a branch in Poblacion, Makati.

Stregato Gelateria: Instagrammable dessert house in Bataan

Bataan is truly one historical province here in the Philippines. But little did we know that it’s also a hidden gem in terms of food. Last April 7-9, we went and visit Bataan for the 77th Day of Valor. Aside from that, we also did a food crawl and saw the best restaurants in Bataan. Don’t worry, I’ll be making a separate blog post about that.

For now, let me share this instagrammable dessert house that we tried in Balanga, Bataan named Stregato Gelateria.

ABOUT STREGATO GELATERIA

This is not only a dessert house that serves gelato (of course) and other desserts, they also offer rice meals, pasta, and sandwiches.

If you’ll look the outside of the cafe, you’ll definitely be curious what’s inside because of its colorful swings, giant ice creams, and garden-type ambiance of the cafe.

But wait, there’s more. Wait until you enter the cafe!!! I definitely fell in love as I enter the door. I immediately called Ian to take pictures of me. LOL.

Of course, we tried their gelato to beat the freaking heat. I got one of their best sellers, which is Pistachio (premium) for only 90 php.

I really love the ambiance and interior of the place. My heart is so full when I saw the place. I left with a heavy heart because I don’t wanna go yet. HUHU. This place must be on your list too!

Carne Smoke House: The first smoke house in Fairview

Last weekend, we had a quick catch up with my (favorite) tita and cousin. It’s been so long since we had the last one. But since they are from Caloocan, we had to meet halfway, which is Fairview. I found this newly opened restaurant along Mindanao Avenue and immediately planned our catch up there. The restaurant named “Carne Smoke House by Tipsy Porky“.

ABOUT CARNE SMOKE HOUSE

This is under the same management of Tipsy Porky, which offer unli samgyupsal. They recently opened last April 8, 2019. This restaurant is said to be the first smoke house along Fairview.

This 2-storey restaurant’s interior has a light and cool vibe. It has doodle arts around the walls on the 1st floor which was made by the owner’s nephew.

The second floor isn’t air-conditioned because the smoke grill is located here.

About the food, they offer smoked, grilled, fried, silog, wings, pasta, and burgers.

APPETIZERS

For the side dishes, we had their Coleslaw (59 php) and Potato Salad (59 php). Our favorite was the Coleslaw! For the fries, we got their Carne Fries (100 php).

BURGER

We had their Buffalo Chicken Burger (170 php). It has complimentary fries. This is new to me so I got curious. The burger was okay. I think it’s better when you eat it hot because we ate it cold already. HUHU.

PASTA

We had Red Pasta (149 php) which I loved and White Scallop (169 php). According to my cousin and tita, it has legit bits of scallop in it so I think it was really good.

FRIED

We had their Sexy Sisig (180 php) which was my favorite! The pork was so chewy and really flavorful. It was also a bit spicy so it’s a really thumbs up for me. I suggest they add mayo to make it more delicious. HEHE.

WINGS

For the wings, we had Smoked BBQ (6 pcs-199 php). I personally loved the flavor even without having a dip just like other wings that I’ve tried. I also commend the big serving size of the wings.

SMOKED

For the chicken, we had their Original Carne Butterflied Chicken (half-299 php). This one was also the crowd favorite. Their special sauce was so awesome! Just a reminder to eat it while it’s hot to enjoy the juiciness of the chicken.

And last but not the least, the main event of the night, we had their Sweet and Smokey Ribs (half slab-499 php). Love how the meat was cooked. It was so tender but not too juicy. The ribs itself was flavorful even without having a dip. But in case you’re craving for some dip, try the special sauce from the smoked chicken, it was good!

I personally loved the ambiance of the place. I found their handmade doodle cute! The food was good. Surprisingly, the price is affordable and perfect for students and millenials out there. I’m planning to go back again and try their other dishes such as Crispy Pata, T-bone Steak, and their Silog meals.

Fantastic Chef: Newly-opened unli Korean BBQ in Malate

It’s now obvious that numerous Korean BBQ restaurants are still booming and even hyper than before. In each places, you can spot a Korean BBQ restaurant that will caught your attention.

Last weekend, we went to a newly-opened Korean BBQ restaurant in Malate. Last year, we had a staycation at Hop Inn Malate and we had our dinner in Uncle Hwangsojip Restaurant. That time, Fantastic Chef isn’t around yet. What I noticed in Malate was there’s a lot of Korean restos around the area! So if ever you’re looking for a Korean BBQ resto food crawl, Malate is the place to be.

ABOUT FANTASTIC CHEF

Last August 2017, the restaurant named Galmegi which means seagull then it was changed to Fantastic Chef on January 16, 2019. By the way, all the food is prepared by a Michelin awardee and one of the Korea’s A-list chefs. Her name is Chef Jang Jungyun. So you are secured that all the dishes here are authentic and have good quality.

Aside from the numerous number of meats, I commend their thick cuts of meat and grilling pan. This made me justify that they really serve an authentic dishes.

I had there sundae that costs 100 PHP. Like how they formed the ice cream. It looks like an isaw, a small intestine of chicken. LOL. But it’s good tho.

Take note also that there’s no time limit here in Fantastic Chef, meaning you can eat all you want! YAY. Just a reminder also that at least a minimum of two persons can avail their unlimited samgyupsal.

One thing I noticed there was they have a small space inside the restaurant. When we got there, we had to wait for a few minutes before we can start grilling.

I must say, this one is in my top three best Korean BBQ restaurant today! I really love their food presentation. Very classy and looks neat. Not only the food presentation was good. The food itself tasted really good. So flavorful and you can really taste its spices used. I just hope they improve their space to accommodate more people. It is worth the penny guys, you should try it. Look, my friend Jen enjoyed eating here too.

Bag O’ Wings: Affordable wings located in Manila

We went to Manila on a Saturday night to have a food trip. We found ourselves entering a food park near UST (University of Sto. Tomas). Well, this food park is called Fusebox Lifestyle Complex. This is located in Laong Laan St. cor. Asturias St., Manila.

Since it’s been so long since we had chicken, we saw this small stall inside the said food park. By the way, what I love about this food park is that each stall is enclosed, not the usual food park we see everywhere. This stall named Bag O’ Wings.

ABOUT BAG O’ WINGS

This is a newly-opened stall that opened last February 2019 and owned by a lovely couple. According to Sir Choy, his wife gave this idea and also the chef here.

What I love about their stall is that they are perfectly located near UST which they target students. So expect the price to be really budget-friendly and affordable. But fret not, even it’s affordable, their food are good and you’ll be surprised because it’s cheap!

To be honest, at first I’m not expecting a lot from their food because of the price posted. It’s really affordable. But after eating, we’re really surprised, happy, and full. The food were good. My personal favorite flavors were the Soy Garlic and Buffalo. About their Salted Egg, Ian told me that the flavor used are real salted eggs, not the usual powder salted eggs. So it’s a plus point for us!

This is really perfect for students too because the price here are very student-friendly. You can have unli wings without breaking your budget too much.

Kandle Cafe: A hidden third-wave cafe in QC

Last March, we celebrated Ian’s birthday. Two days before his birthday, I’m already looking for a perfect place to celebrate his special day. While I’m browsing my FB feed, I searched for some nearby restaurants in Quezon City. Then I saw this recommended cafe in Mother Ignacia.

ABOUT KANDLE CAFE

This is owned by the 4 siblings namely Khryss, Don King, Leslie, and Eli, wherein two of them are chef. In case you are wondering where the name came from, just look at the initials of their name. HIHI.

From outside, you can’t believe it’s a cafe unless you see their logo. It looks like a function area which is also true. They cater special and private events.

But as you walk to the entrance, you’ll be amaze by the garden-inspired ambiance. They have a waterfall-like structure outside.

Upon entrance, one of the staff will immediately assists you. They will ask you if you have a reservation (yes, they accept reservation) which we did.

Also, you will be amazed by the interior inside.

Their tables come in different sizes which is perfect for couples, solo, or friends hanging out. I also noticed that some of the customers are students who are studying. I find their ambiance a perfect place for studying. Also, they have a high-speed internet inside.

Since they are a third-wave coffee, they offer specialty coffees and other special drinks. They also have a wide variant of food to choice.

They offer desserts too.

The food was good. We didn’t appreciated it that much because the food were already cold because we took pictures first. HUHU. Our bad. But I love their Cheesy QC Maki and drinks! I might try their desserts next time. But the ambiance really gave me chill. Perfect for a romantic date night or just a simple chill night with friends. Or maybe your study place too. You choose 🙂
